Project Storage
Project Storage extends File Storage onto project (Job) records, giving every project a dedicated Files subtab that aggregates documents attached anywhere within the project — plus separate handling for plan files (drawings).
Not a separate SuiteApp
"Project Storage" is not a separate SuiteApp — it's the project-aware part of the File Storage SuiteApp. The Files subtab on a project appears the moment File Storage is installed; there is nothing extra to buy or install. If you're looking for general file attachment functionality, start at File Storage.
What Project Storage adds on top of File Storage
File Storage gives every NetSuite record a drop-zone and a file list in the body of the record. Project Storage adds two project-specific surfaces on top of that:
- Files subtab on the project record. Every Job (project) record gets a dedicated Files subtab that aggregates every file stored anywhere within the project — files on the project itself, on transactions tied to the project, on contracts and claims, and on related records. Files are grouped by category so it's easy to find drawings, certificates, photos, and supporting documents separately. This subtab is delivered entirely by File Storage and appears once File Storage is installed.
- Plan files. A parallel surface for plan records (drawings, design documents). Plan files are a shared capability: File Storage provides the underlying document storage, while Project Financials provides the plan record itself and the plan-files surface that sits on it. Plan files therefore require both File Storage and Project Financials to be installed. They have their own list and upload widget tailored to the way plans are managed (versioning, drawing numbers, revisions).
Where Project Storage fits
Project Storage is File Storage's project-aware UI — not a separate product or install. The boundary is straightforward:
- The Files subtab on a Job record is wholly part of File Storage. It appears as soon as File Storage is installed; nothing else is required.
- Plan files are a shared capability. File Storage supplies the document storage; Project Financials supplies the plan record and the plan-files surface on it. Plan files therefore need both apps installed.
If you're configuring file storage for the first time, the order is:
- Install Portal and register the account.
- Install File Storage.
- Enable the File Storage widget on the record types your projects touch (transactions, vendors, custom records, etc.).
- Confirm the Files subtab appears on Job records and shows files grouped by category.
For plan files, you'll also need Project Financials installed.
